NEUROscience meets Machine Learning (NeuroML)

The NeuroML Research Group at UC San Diego sits at the interface of neuroscience, AI, and large‑scale data analysis. We develop computational models—descriptive, predictive, and normative— to illuminate the what, how, and why of information processing in brains and machines. Our current emphasis is on representational alignment: mapping how internal codes, features, and circuits correspond across species, sensory modalities, and families of large language and vision models. By unifying insights from vision, audition, language, and multimodal perception, we aim to reveal the universal principles that organize intelligent systems—biological or artificial—and to build tools that make these representations transparent, comparable, and ultimately controllable.
